An airplane, also known as an aircraft or aeroplane, is a vehicle designed for air travel that is propelled through the air by one or more jet engines or turboprop engines.

Airplanes are used for a variety of purposes, including transportation of people and cargo, military operations, and scientific research. There are many different types of airplanes, including commercial airliners, military aircraft, private planes, and experimental aircraft. In the aerospace context, an airplane is typically a powered, fixed-wing aircraft that is capable of sustained flight through the use of lift generated by its wings.

There are many different types of airplanes that are used in the aerospace industry, including:

  1. Commercial airliners: These are large aircraft that are used to transport passengers and cargo on a regular basis. Examples include the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A380.

  2. Military aircraft: These are aircraft that are used by military forces for a variety of purposes, including transportation, surveillance, and combat. Examples include fighter jets such as the F-16 and transport planes such as the C-130.

  3. Private planes: These are smaller aircraft that are used for personal or business travel. Examples include the Cessna 172 and the Beechcraft Baron.

  4. Experimental aircraft: These are aircraft that are used for research and development purposes, or for testing new technologies. Examples include the Space Shuttle and the X-15.
